Vehicle Lifts

Vehicle lifts are available in single phase or 3-phase power options. As a rule, the norm would be a 3-phase option for a professional garage. Single phase lifts are readily available, although they may be a little more expensive.

A surface mounted lift is one that is installed on top of the workshop floor, while a recessed lift will be installed into a pre-built recess, so that in the lowered position the platform is flush with the floor. Surface mounted lifts reduce groundworks requirements, making them quicker to install. Recessed lifts require modifications to your garage floor, but they reduce trip hazards and remove the need for approach ramps.

The type of lift you require will depend on the technology employed in the wheel alignment equipment you purchase. As a general rule, a 4-post, or scissor lift, designed specifically for wheel alignment, with radius/turn plates installed is the best option. But in some cases, it’s possible to provide a wheel alignment service on a 2-post lift. Either way, you’ll be working under the vehicle if you need to make adjustments, so a full-height lift is required.

Yes. If you’re investing in MOT testing, then you’ll be installing an Automated Test Lane (ATL) lift, which incorporates a number of specific features required for MOT testing. The recommended lifts for MOTs include 4-post and scissor lifts. Which type you select will depend on the available space you have in your workshop. Scissor lifts are typically recommended for garages with a width restriction.

This depends entirely on the type of vehicle you plan to work on, but you might be restricted by the space or ceiling/roof height available in your workshop. Every lift is manufactured/certified to lift a certain weight, which will be clearly displayed on the lift. Generally, the higher the lifting capacity, the bigger the lift. However, four post lifts are generally considered the most stable, albeit potentially less flexible than a 2-post lift.
