Class 4 & Class 7 Test Equipment

The equipment required for Class 4 and Class 7 MOT Testing is fundamentally the same – the test covers the same things but Class 4 vehicles (with a gross vehicle weight less than 3,000 kg) are smaller and lighter, so Class 4 vehicle lifts and brake testers need slightly less size and weight capacity than Class 7.

Class 7 covers commercial vehicles with a gross weight between 3,000kg to 3,500kg. They’re bigger and heavier than Class 4 vehicles, so the vehicle lift needs to be bigger all-round and capable of lifting a heavier vehicle; the brake tester also needs the capacity to assess the function of the brakes on a heavier vehicle. Beyond that, the equipment required for Class 7 testing is the same as for Class 4.

Equipment required for Class 4 and Class 7 MOT testing includes:

• Automated Test Lane (ATL) vehicle lift with associated accessories (Jacking Beam, Radius Plates, Play Detectors/Shaker Plates)
• ‘Connected’ Roller brake tester and decelerometer*
• ‘Connected’ exhaust emissions test equipment*
• Headlamp beam tester

*Connected equipment is linked directly to the MOT Testing System (MTS), which saves time, input errors, and the need to print results. Click here for more information.
