Light Commercial Vehicle MOT Testing (Class 7)

While many smaller commercial vehicles are covered by the Class 4 MOT Test, a Class 7 MOT is required for commercial vehicles with a gross weight between 3,000kg to 3,500kg.

One of the most important considerations when considering Class 7 MOT Testing is the available space in your workshop. Class 7 vehicles are bigger all-round, requiring a wider and longer vehicle lift and more head room than most Class 4 vehicles will need.

The equipment required for Class 7 MOT testing is very similar to the equipment required for the Class 4 test. The vehicle lift needs to be bigger and have a greater lifting capacity, to accommodate a larger, heavier vehicle, and, similarly, the brake tester must have the capacity to assess the brakes on a heavier vehicle; the rest of the equipment is the same.

Class 7 MOT equipment will allow you to undertake Class 4 tests, so if your workshop has the floor space and height to accommodate Class 7 vehicles, it might be worth considering the additional business opportunity this equipment offers.
